How to make chocolate at Home - Part 5 Resources
While I was editing video 4 of my “How to make chocolate at home” series, I recognized that I actually never told you where you can get cacao beans or other ingredients.
That’s something I want to catch up on.
You can buy cacao butter at Whole Foods and nibs even at Trader Joe’s (Amazon is also an option). But it’s not as simple with cacao beans. The quality of your cacao beans will have the biggest impact on your chocolate flavor, therefore it’s really important for you to have a good bean supplier.
The go-to place is Chocolate Alchemy. There you can source cacao beans, nibs and cacao butter at one place, which is pretty convenient. But there is more: they have a great blog, in which they talk chocolate and answer questions from chocolate lovers and makers. I’ve learned so so much from their website!
Chocolate Alchemy’s products or my products are more costly than the nibs or cacao butter from Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, but organic high quality has its price.
You want to taste the difference and see if it’s really worth it?
Make a test batch of Trader Joe’s nibs and a test batch of my nibs and try it yourself. It’s a fun project and I think it’s always fascinating how much of an impact ingredients or the production process have on a product.
